Caliper Presents at 2019 Sports Business Networking Event, “Leveraging the Athlete Platform”

September 17, 2019 – New York, NY // A crowd of 200 engaged professionals came together on Wednesday night, September 4th in New York City at Jay Z’s, The 40/40 Club to hear Caliper and former professional athletes speak about how they have leveraged their platform for success in business, technology, philanthropy, and social impact.

Caliper’s Principal Scientist & Head of Academic Research and Partnerships, Tom Schoenfelder, Ph.D presented at the private, fireside chat with 80 VIPS in the Jay-Z Lounge with Justin Miller, Senior Associate Athletics Director at Temple University. They discussed the new FLIGHT Leadership Academy at Temple University as well as the importance of developing student athletes on and in the field. The presentation focused on traits and sports success, attributes of successful athletes, psychometrics, and integrating academic and applied skills.

When asked about the event, Tom Schoenfelder, Ph.D said, “It was truly an honor to participate in this event. This forum opens up great discussions and increases awareness of many critical social and cultural issues that have long needed to be addressed in sports. In line with this theme, we are proud to be working with Justin and his staff at Temple University to prepare student athletes for the many challenges they will be facing on and off the field. The FLIGHT Leadership Academy arms these student athletes with the development, skills, knowledge, and habits that will drive them to be highly effective leaders in all aspects of their lives – athletics, professional, and community.”

The private event also featured a discussion with retired NFL players, Walter Powell Jr. and Brian Westbrook and MLB Veteran, Chris Dickerson. They each took turns discussing life after sports and how their businesses began. The event was hosted by Sports Biz Group, and event sponsors this year were Ballstreet and Caliper.

Caliper and Temple University are excited to have launched such a unique and rewarding program. For more information about the work Caliper does in college and professional sports, visit www.calipercorp.com/allstar.
