Employee engagement for long-term gain is focus of workshop by HealthFitness Dennis Richling, MD, at NBGH event

MINNEAPOLIS, MN Oct. 20, 2011— HealthFitness’ Chief Medical and Wellness Officer Dennis Richling, MD, will speak at the National Business Group on Health’s 25th National Conference on Health, Productivity and Human Capital Oct. 25. The workshop, entitled “Beyond Signing Up and Showing Up: Driving Employee Engagement for Long-Term Gain,” will explore meaningful engagement of employees as the key differentiator in the success of a worksite health promotion program.

Richling will be joined by co-presenters Anthony Scibelli, manager, Employee Health & Wellbeing for NextEra Energy, Inc., and Roger Wilson, state employee wellness and benefits administrator for the State of Nebraska. Both companies are HealthFitness clients. Scibelli and Wilson will highlight successful, innovative engagement strategies aimed at their respective workforces and based on the outcomes of their own case studies.

NextEra is one of the largest providers of electricity services in the nation; its award-winning Employee Health & WellBeing program offers integrated program benefits to employees in some 27 states. The State of Nebraska was awarded the 2011 Innovations Award from The Council of State Governments for its breakthrough fully integrated wellness program that inspires some 18,000 state employees and 6,000 spouses to get active, lose weight and become proactive about preventive care.

“Appropriately engaging employees along the continuum of health—from those who are healthy and at low risk, to those who are at risk and can benefit to lifestyle behavior change, all the way to those who need chronic condition management—is an essential element of business success in today’s health and productivity management initiatives,” Richling said. “There are so many activities that can distract us from doing what is really important in life—taking care of our health. Truly successful programs meet people personally wherever they are, and guide them in a way that is personally interactive, purposeful and collaborative.”

The workshop will be presented Oct. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Westin Boston Waterfront in Boston. For a detailed agenda and to register, go to: businessgrouphealth.org/meeting/11HPHCconference/index.cfm.
