TALX to Present HR, Payroll and Tax Services Expertise During APAs 30th Anniversary Congress

ST. The premier payroll event of the year, APA’s 30th Anniversary Congress will be held at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Orlando from Sunday, May 6 through Thursday, May 10, 2012.

TALX will have a prominent role at the Congress, with several of its subject matter experts leading three workshops designed to help employers streamline their I-9 and unemployment process and better understand the tax credits and incentives available to them. Aimed at APA’s audience of payroll professionals, these sessions will provide Congress attendees with the insight necessary to improve I-9 and tax strategies and processes. The three sessions include:

• Taking Control of Your I-9 Compliance (Monday, May 7 at 1:45 p.m.) — During this session, Troy Hupp, I-9 manager for TALX, will join Barbara Youngman, payroll manager for Southwest Airlines, to discuss the latest I-9 requirements from both federal and state authorities. Attendees will hear Youngman’s experiences in managing an organization’s conversion from a paper-based I-9 process to an electronic method, and how TALX helped streamline the experience and improve the company’s compliance.

• Tax Credits and Incentives Impact the Bottom Line by Leveraging Payroll Data (Monday, May 7 at 3:30 p.m.) — In this workshop, Michael Mohr, vice president of TALX, and Scott Shipman, TMS senior tax manager for TALX, along with Carl York, director of Payroll for La Quinta Inns & Suites, will provide an overview of current tax credits and incentives available to employers. The session will focus on the federal, state and payroll initiatives that help minimize liabilities and impact an employer’s bottom line. The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), hiring, job creation, enterprise zones and other location-based incentives will be reviewed and discussed.

• Unemployment Tax Impact on 2012 and Beyond (Wednesday, May 9 at 8:00 a.m.) — During this workshop, Mohr, Matt White, region director of Employment Tax Services for TALX, and Karen Salemi, global training lead for IBM will present a broad overview of the current state of the national economy related specifically to unemployment taxes. They will also review state trust fund challenges, current legislative trends and the impact on employers. Additionally, Mohr, White and Salemi will provide proactive guidance on planning strategies, tax rating and claims management related to reducing unemployment costs.
