NEAS Changes Name to Empathia, Announces Diverse Menu of Behavioral Health Programs

MILWAUKEE, Wis. / January 6, 2011 — NEAS, Inc., announced the change of its corporate name to Empathia, Inc., along with an expanded array of behavioral health solutions that improve the well-being, safety and productivity of organizations and individuals.

The new name culminates 18 months of service diversification and innovation, which is ongoing.  Empathia (pronounced em-path-ia) replaces the company’s longtime name of NEAS, which dates to the organization’s founding in 1982. While EAP and work/life remain a core business, Empathia has added expertise in other behavioral solutions:

– Human asset risk management and disaster mitigation, branded as Black Swan Solutions®
– Trauma response and organizational recovery services
– Well-being coaching for creating a culture of health
Leadership coaching and executive leadership development programs
– Benefits integration/advocacy under the CarePartners brand

All of these services help employers create a workplace culture of well-being and safety that directly influences productivity. Additionally, Empathia’s revamped Web site is now located at www.empathia.com. The new site features industry blogs for well-being, safety and productivity, providing visitors with relevant articles, content and commentary for each of these areas.

“We believe Empathia conveys a feeling, a sense of who we are and how we conduct ourselves on behalf of the employers, employees and families we serve,” said Philip Chard, president and chief executive officer. “The name has Greek origins and refers to a deeper level of understanding. There’s also dual meaning in how Empathia conveys both an attribute of empathy and the implication of a `path’—a way of caring and engagement that leads to improvement.”

In related news, the company’s West Coast subsidiary, NEAS Western Division, has changed its name to Empathia Pacific. Concentrating on the California market, Empathia Pacific holds a Knox-Keene license, a necessary requirement for extended EAP services in that state.
