LAKE FOREST, Calif., May 17, 2011 – Accurate Background, a global leader in the background screening industry, is pleased to announce that their Vice President of International Development, Traci Canning, has earned her second certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). Her attainment of the Certified Information Privacy Professional/Information Technology (CIPP/IT) certification reflects the company’s commitment to innovative technology surrounding international privacy laws and regulations, including data protection practices.
Developed by the IAPP in close collaboration with data privacy and security experts from the public and private sectors, the CIPP/IT demonstrates an individual’s understanding of privacy and data protection practices as they relate to several aspects of Information Technology solutions—namely development, engineering, deployment, and auditing. The CIPP/IT credential has the distinction of being the first global privacy certification for Information Technology professionals.
Recognized as a technology leader in the employment screening industry, Accurate Background continues to focus on information security and data privacy. “Interpretations of global privacy and data protection best practices can vary from country to country,” explains Dave Dickerson, Accurate Background’s President and CEO. “Accurate Background understands this complexity and continues to build on its history of innovation by leveraging technology to support standards in data privacy, protection, and security controls.” Canning’s global IT privacy certification and invaluable knowledge of worldwide requirements will be instrumental in Accurate Background’s continued leadership in this field.
With the CIPP/IT, Canning is now dual-certified. She also holds a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification, which was established by the IAPP in 2004 as the first professional certification ever to be offered in information privacy. To obtain this prestigious credential, an industry professional must be well-versed in U.S. privacy laws and regulations, and must also have an understanding of the legal requirements pertaining to the transfer of sensitive personal data to and from the U.S., the European Union (E.U.), and other jurisdictions. The CIPP program is therefore international in scope, covering not only U.S. privacy legislation but also the more stringent legal requirements of the E.U.
Prior to joining Accurate Background, Canning was Managing Director of EMEA and APAC for Kroll, where she was responsible for innovation and compliance with the privacy and regulatory requirements of the business and its clients. Having achieved dual-certified status as a privacy/IT professional, she is dedicated to further developing the technology products and services that will meet the evolving needs of Accurate Background’s clients.
Canning has written extensively on international screening and has been published in trade and news journals worldwide. She received her Master of Arts in Communications from West Chester University.
