Examining OFCCP Audit Trends: Specificity and Inconsistency

COLUMBIA, MD—July 17, 2012, the audit behavior of Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) has changed dramatically in the last year. Gone are the days where OFCCP took a quick look at basic affirmative action data, and if nothing raised a red flag, they were gone and the audit closed. As an agency of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), OFCCP is supporting DOL’s four new outcomes, and has switched to an enforcement approach when it comes to handling audits.

Berkshire Associates’ latest white paper, `OFCCP Audit Trends: Specificity and Inconsistency,’ examines DOL’s four new outcomes, and identifies how OFCCP is currently handling audits to ensure federal contractor and subcontractor compliance. This timely white paper also breaks down the latest audit trends, including those related to Veterans and individuals with disabilities.

According to author and compliance expert, Liz Balconi, PHR, “In mid-2011 and the start of 2012, new OFCCP audit strategies emerged. OFCCP underwent an ideological shift from compliance assistance to compliance enforcement. This shift has trickled down in a number of ways across the country, in every region, impacting audit strategies and the audit process. Contractors need to be aware of this shift to remain compliant.”
