In a remarkable display of generosity, residents of Ashby Ponds, an Erickson Senior Living community in Ashburn, VA, have contributed more than $370,000 to support the educational aspirations of fifty local high school students. These students, recognized as Student Scholars, have shown exceptional dedication and professionalism while working in various roles across the community's eight on-campus restaurants.
The scholarship fund provides each student with a $12,000 total scholarship, disbursed as $1,500 per semester. Additionally, six students were honored with a named scholarship award of $10,000, elevating their total award to $22,000. Four children of Ashby Ponds employees received an extra $5,000, making their total scholarship amount $17,000. To qualify for these four-year scholarships, students must complete 1,000 hours of work over two years, maintain good academic and professional standing, and enroll full-time in a college, university, or trade school.
Tom Channon, Executive Director at Ashby Ponds, expressed gratitude towards the residents for their generosity, emphasizing the profound impact these scholarships have on the students' futures. Beyond the four-year scholarships, 32 college students balancing work and studies were awarded the One-Year Scholars Award, a $3,000 scholarship, showcasing Ashby Ponds' broader support for team members pursuing their education.
This initiative not only underscores the community's commitment to fostering a supportive environment for its employees but also highlights the significant role of intergenerational support in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. The scholarships represent a tangible investment in the students' futures, offering them a solid foundation as they embark on their higher education journeys.
