The feature aims to solve a common problem in the trucking industry: lapses in Driver Qualification Files (DQFs) that often lead to failed audits.
Under FMCSA regulation 49 CFR §391.51, carriers must maintain 18 documents per driver, including pre-employment records, annual reviews, and ongoing testing. According to FleetCollect, these files are frequently found deficient during DOT audits, often due to expired medical cards, missed Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) reviews, or outdated CDL copies. The new automated texting system targets these renewal gaps by sending reminders to drivers at 30, 14, 7, and 1 day before expiration, and again if the document lapses. Each text includes a secure link for drivers to upload renewal documents directly from their phones.

The SMS reminders are included on every plan at no extra cost, operating on carrier-attested driver consent with an opt-out option.
