The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) successfully concluded the ninth edition of the Knowledge Summit, held from November 18 to 19, 2024, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event, themed 'Future Skills and AI Economy,' attracted over 3,000 in-person attendees and more than 22,000 online participants, underscoring the growing global interest in the intersection of technology and human capital development.
The summit featured more than 40 panel discussions and dialogues, bringing together over 50 international experts from sectors including artificial intelligence, technology, economy, education, and the environment. These sessions explored innovative ideas about future skills and the challenges and opportunities presented by advanced technologies, particularly AI. His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, emphasized the summit's role as a leading global platform for discussing vital issues shaping the world, especially in light of the rapid expansion of AI and other emerging technologies.
A major highlight of the event was the organization of the '3rd UNESCO World OER Congress' for the first time in the Arab region, alongside the inaugural meeting of the 'Global Alliance for Skills Development.' These initiatives strengthen efforts to build a knowledge economy and solidify Dubai's position as a premier destination for global events. The summit's focus on future skills is critical for HR vendors, as it signals a shift toward digital tools and competencies that will define the future labor market.
Key discussions centered on the transformations brought about by AI in the economy, education, and training. Participants explored ways to employ advanced technologies to enhance economic growth and stimulate social change. The event also identified the skills that new generations will need to meet future labor market requirements, a topic of direct relevance to HR vendors who must align their offerings with these emerging needs. The emphasis on innovation and global competitiveness highlights the importance for vendors to stay ahead of trends in AI and skills development.
The summit's success reaffirms the UAE's leading role in building a knowledge-based future and underscores the need for collective global efforts to address future challenges. For HR vendors, this represents a clear signal that investment in AI-driven solutions and future skills training is no longer optional but essential. The event's impact extends beyond its duration, creating lasting effects for individuals and communities worldwide, and contributing to a more informed and technologically adept global society. As the Knowledge Summit continues to grow, it remains a crucial platform for spreading knowledge and fostering innovation, directly influencing the direction of human resource strategies globally.
