Human Capital Institute (HCI) Adds Over 35,000 New Members in 2009

Washington, D.C. — March 4, 2010 — In a year marked by record unemployment, mass layoffs and unhappy, disengaged workers, it seems executives are increasingly focused on talent. The Human Capital Institute, (HCI, a global association of over 175,000 recruitment, HR and business leaders announced today that over 35,000 new members joined the organization in 2009, a year-over-year growth rate of 25%.

Our members are telling us that accelerating global competition and disruptive change are driving the need for smarter, more efficient, more creative employees”, according to Michael Foster, CEO at HCI, “They are joining HCI to learn about how to attract and hire the very best people, how to align and engage them more effectively, and how to retain their top contributors.”

HCI members report that in a market flooded with resumes, it’s harder than ever to select the few high performers in the crowd, and as the market begins to turn around, it’s even harder to keep the best people on board. They realize that market leadership can change dramatically over the course of a recession, and in order to gain that competitive advantage, HCI members realize that the companies with the best workforce that will win the next round.

Strategic Talent Management is already an important board-level issue, as executives realize that the caliber of their people represents the only sustainable competitive advantage in a global economy. HCI is helping them drive this new paradigm, and the new practices that support it.
