Human Capital Institute Teams with Dr. Gary Hamel and HCL CEO Vineet Nayar on Reinventing Management Series

“Managing Millennials” webcast explores alternatives to traditional organizational model for empowering millennial workers

Washington, D.C. – September 23, 2010 – The Human Capital Institute (HCI), the global association for strategic talent management, announced today that author and respected management thought leader Dr. Gary Hamel will be the featured speaker during the webcast “Managing Millennials: The ‘Employees First, Customers Second’ Experiment.” The event will take place Monday, October 4, from 11 – noon ET.

The free webcast will include a one-hour live presentation between Professor Hamel and Vineet Nayar, CEO of HCL Technologies, Ltd., the India-based global information technology services company. Nayar recently authored the book Employees First, Customer Second: Turning Conventional Management Upside Down (Harvard Business Press, June 2010).

The second in a series of webcasts with Dr. Hamel on “Reinventing Management for the 21st Century,” this presentation will explore the impact of managing the new generation of Web-savvy employees. Over the past five years, HCL Technologies has engaged in a company-wide experiment to test an alternative to the traditional organizational model — one more closely aligned with the new workforce. The company has inverted the management pyramid, making management as accountable to employees as employees are to managers. Financial and other information — including the 360-review of the CEO himself — has been made widely available. Front-line employees – many in their 20s – are empowered to drive organizational change, while Vineet provocatively talks about “destroying the office of the CEO.” The result: more satisfied customers and robust financial results, including 20 percent year-on-year growth during the economic downturn.
