Boston, MA, (May 4, 2011) — How can leaders act on their beliefs in conscious capitalism in powerful, practical, and strategic ways that advance their company’s mission and performance?
That’s the focus of a panel on Conscious Leadership in Practice at the 3rd Annual Conscious Capitalism Conference that runs May 17-18, 2011 at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Interaction Associates’ Board Member and former Chairperson, Marybeth Tahar, will be among several panelists exploring the challenges for conscious leaders — panelists including John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods, Doug Rauch, former President of Trader Joe’s, speaker and visionary John Renesch, and Bettina Gordon, Producer and Host of The Wisdom Keepers of the World™.
Conscious capitalism is a movement that stresses two simultaneous goals in business: enhancing corporate performance of companies while also advancing larger societal goals and quality of life issues. As such, leaders who call themselves conscious capitalists pursue creative and synergistic strategies that offer multiple kinds of value simultaneously to multiple stakeholders vs. the zero-sum and trade-off oriented view which is traditional to business.
“Interaction Associates has a 40-plus year legacy of helping leaders exercise power and engage stakeholders effectively and appropriately,” said Marybeth Tahar. “Our methods break down the challenges to help leaders focus on levels of involvement in decision making; convening and engaging stakeholder voices; and the strategic importance of defining success across the equal measures of results, process, and relationship,” added Tahar.
With offices in Boston and San Francisco, Interaction Associates is the 40-year innovator of methods for developing facilitative leaders.
“The Conscious Capitalism Conference’s goals are aligned with Interaction Associates’ focus on developing facilitative leaders — leaders who are serious about business sustainability and the triple bottom line,” Linda Dunkel said. “The conference theme of ‘Conscious Leadership’ is fully supported by our model of the Facilitative Leader. Leaders today have an incredible impact on resources, on ecologies, on communities, and political systems — we are working to awaken new thinking and fuel problem-solving,” she added.
The conference will feature a blend of corporate leaders, academics and thought leaders who will together explore the frontiers of knowledge on what it means to be a conscious business in the 21st century. Prominent business leaders at the conference include John Mackey of Whole Foods, Kip Tindell of The Container Store, Jeffrey Hollender of Seventh Generation, Dough Rauch (former President of Trader Joe´s) and Ron Schaich, Chairman and Founder of Panera Bread. Academics include Profs. Philip Kotler of Northwestern University and Len Berry of Texas A&M University.
