Marketing Resources Solutions Survey: 63 Percent of Fortune 500 Corporate Marketing Departments Plan on Adding Staff in 2011

Over Half Intend to Hire a Mix of Full-Time and Contract Marketers

CHICAGO — December 13, 2010 — Marketing Resources Solutions Inc. (www.mrsstaff.com) today announced the findings of its “2011 Spending & Staffing Trends for Corporate Marketing Departments” pulse survey. The professional marketing services company surveyed leading Fortune 500 companies across the country to gain insight into where they plan to increase spending in 2011 and their staffing needs.

Sixty-nine percent of respondents said that budget constraints and staffing will be their biggest challenges in 2011. Although Marketing Resources’ survey found that 63 percent of Fortune 500 companies were planning on hiring additional marketers in 2011, 93.8 percent said if they could, they would hire up to five more marketers to add to their staff.

“Today’s marketing organizations’ biggest challenge is struggling to increase revenues and market share, as well as build customer loyalty, with less resources,” said Marcia Pellicone, founder and president of Marketing Resources Solutions. “Instead of abandoning marketing activities, companies are looking to adapt the way they support their marketing efforts. That’s why we have seen a surge in the number of companies coming to us for unique marketing solutions that provide flexibility and control over resources.”

The survey findings show it’s evident that more companies are looking at interim staffing solutions as a way to fill gaps within their departments. Over half (72 percent) of corporate marketing departments who plan to add staff in 2011 say they will use a mix of full-time and contract workers.

“The efficiency and flexibility that interim staffing offers has made companies view it as a permanent organizational change, rather than a trend that will fade once the economy recovers,” said Pellicone. “The days of traditional staffing and robust corporate headcount are over. Interim marketers provide a strategic way for companies to control labor costs, maintain productivity and meet deadlines.”

Other findings from Marketing Resources’ survey revealed which areas of marketing Fortune 500 companies plan to increase spending. The top areas of marketing that Fortune 500 companies plan to increase their spending on include; Internet Marketing (50 percent), Product Development (31.3 percent), Brand Marketing (31.3 percent), Research (25 percent), Adverting (25 percent), and Direct Mail Campaigns (25 percent).
