Austin, TX – May 6, 2014 – Novotus, the largest Texas based Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) company, conducted a Texas Employment Outlook Survey in the first quarter of 2014. The survey spanned companies from a variety of industries and sizes to get a snapshot of the employment market in the state.
In this survey of Texas human resource leaders and company executives, 75.2% of those surveyed report hiring the talent their company needs is more difficult today than it was 12 months ago. At the same time, the majority of companies are seeing the competition for the employees they need is increasing (72.5%), while only 1.8% are seeing the competition for talent decreasing.
“The competition for people has been increasing here in Texas for some time,” said Novotus founder and CEO Mike Mayeux. “But recruiting has become noticeably more challenging in the past 12 months. We expect that trend to accelerate based on the number of companies that are expanding and relocating to the state. While the economy continues to struggle in many parts of the country, growth is very strong here, and that is changing the recruiting landscape for companies with operations in Texas.”
That growth is evident from the companies surveyed. In the next six months, 30.3% plan to hire more employees than they did in the last six months, while 43.1% plan to hire at about the same rate.
“Most economists see the state growing jobs in 2014 at about the same pace it did in 2013. All of the major metropolitan areas – Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio, are experiencing similar growth patterns. However, the local industry mix driving each specific region’s growth may vary slightly. In addition, many of the smaller employment markets in the state are seeing similar strong growth fueled by increased energy production and by a resurgence in manufacturing,” said Cory Kruse, Novotus Chief Operating Officer.
