Denver, CO – Sept. 14, 2010 – The HR technology industry has lost a visionary and good friend. James E. Spoor, HR professional and HRIS pioneer, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010, at the age of 74. Jim launched the PC/Intel® based HRIS industry when he founded Spectrum in 1984. Although he retired from Spectrum’s day-to-day operations in 2006, he remained passionate about the industry.
Jim’s career spanned a wide range of industries and organizations including the United States Army, Control Data Corporation, Vetco Oil, Hamilton Brothers, and Spectrum. He served on many boards, but he was most proud of serving on those for the International Association for Human Resources Information Management (IHRIM), Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, and The Inc. Council of Growing Companies. He was also an active supporter of his fraternity (Alpha Chi Rho) and his alma mater, the University of Illinois, where he received a Distinguished Alumni Award.
He will be missed and remembered by his wife Nancy, son Kendall, daughters Sybll, Andrea and Marcie, and 8 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the USO or Boy Scouts of America.
