SPRINGFIELD, MA — October 7, 2010 — Unemployment Tax Control Associates (UTCA) again hosted their popular Annual Client Update at the Sheraton Monarch Place Hotel and Conference Center. This year’s program marked the 20th year anniversary of UTCA, founded by its President and CEO, Suzanne Murphy.
“This program was especially meaningful to those of us at UTCA and we were delighted to see so many familiar faces return again this year and a good number of new clients attending. This year’s event was quite remarkable. The enthusiasm levels and participation of our clients really make this annual program special” said Suzanne Murphy.
The popular game show format featuring “UTCA’s Q & A” returned with Barry Waite (Loomis House/Loomis Village) and Melanie Long (Baystate Health Systems) finishing first and second place respectively. They both received American Express gift cards, while other participants enjoyed a coffee on UTCA, with Dunkin Donuts gift certificates handed out to all. Atty. Tim Phelan, VP Client Services, served as the program emcee and kept everyone one on their toes with interesting questions and insightful information on unemployment law.
“THE UTCA update is a great event where you can network with colleagues from array of business types. I enjoy sharing ideas and being able to get up to date on the latest unemployment matters and legal issues. The guest speakers come highly recognized within the employer community and their areas of service. A MUST attend each year”, says Michelle Straut, HR Generalist from Mercy Hospital/Sisters of Providence Health Systems.
Guest speakers this year included David O’Brien a well known organizational and HR consultant who was on hand to sign his recently published book “The Navigators’ Handbook” which was presented to all attendees by UTCA as a memento in celebration of UTCA’s 20th anniversary. David emphasized the importance of leadership from human resource professionals and the value of recognizing employees for their contributions in simple yet effective ways.
Attorney Meghan Sullivan, a highly respected employment law attorney from the law firm of Sullivan, Hayes & Quinn, delivered her annual employment law update in the humorous, engaging and educational style attendee’s look forward to hearing each year. There were many key laws passed and Atty. Sullivan provided valuable information to help clients understand their impact.
