Two alumni from Brigham Young University–Idaho have created a nonprofit platform designed to transform the global talent landscape by connecting businesses with vetted professionals from Africa. Afrisource, founded by Mac Agbonavbare and Marcelo Wilen, seeks to provide meaningful economic opportunities while offering companies access to top-tier talent.
The organization distinguishes itself through a human-first outsourcing model that goes beyond traditional hiring platforms. By offering fully vetted professionals in areas such as operations, marketing, customer support, and business administration, Afrisource provides comprehensive services including hiring, onboarding, payroll, and compliance management. This approach addresses a critical gap in the global talent economy by showcasing the extensive pool of skilled professionals across Africa who have historically been overlooked.
Both founders bring personal experiences of economic challenge and professional resilience to their mission. Agbonavbare, originally from Nigeria, has previously worked with tech giants like Microsoft and Workday, while Wilen, who grew up in Brazil, has professional experience at companies including Google and LinkedIn. Their shared background of overcoming economic barriers drives Afrisource's commitment to creating opportunities for talented African professionals.
By connecting these professionals with international businesses, Afrisource not only helps companies access high-quality talent but also reinvests resources directly into the professionals and their communities. One early client, Alexa K., founder of Wisdom Electric, highlighted the transformative potential of Afrisource's services, noting how their support in SEO dramatically improved her business's online visibility and client acquisition.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Afrisource represents more than a staffing solution—it embodies a strategic approach to global workforce development that prioritizes mutual growth, quality, and inclusive economic opportunity. For HR vendors, this model signals a shift toward socially responsible sourcing that could reshape how companies approach global talent acquisition.
