Girl Scout Gold Award Project Empowers Teen Girls with Car Care Skills

A Sunrise resident and dedicated Girl Scout, Amelie Prodhomme, has earned the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve, the Gold Award, for her innovative project that equips teen girls with essential car care knowledge. Recognizing a significant gap in young women's confidence and ability to manage basic vehicle maintenance, Prodhomme's project, 'Girls on the Go: Helping Teen Girls Navigate Car Care with Confidence,' offers a comprehensive solution through workshops, educational pamphlets, and digital resources.

The initiative was inspired by Prodhomme's observation of her sister's reliance on their father for car-related issues, highlighting a broader societal issue. To combat this, she developed a program that not only educates but also builds confidence among teen girls. The project includes a detailed pamphlet covering fundamental car maintenance tasks and a QR code linking to instructional videos on a YouTube channel she created, ensuring the information is accessible anytime, anywhere.

Lisa Johnson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, praised Prodhomme and her fellow Gold Award recipients for their leadership and innovation in addressing contemporary challenges. 'These young ladies are change agents making a true impact in their communities and beyond,' Johnson stated. Prodhomme was one of 27 Girl Scouts in the region to receive the Gold Award in 2025, with the ceremony supported by notable sponsors including Amazon and Publix Super Market Charities.

The Gold Award recognizes projects that create lasting change, and Prodhomme's contribution to closing the knowledge gap in car care among teen girls exemplifies this mission. By equipping young women with the skills to navigate car maintenance confidently, her project not only addresses an immediate need but also fosters independence and self-reliance, qualities that will benefit them throughout their lives.

For HR vendors, this story highlights a growing trend in grassroots initiatives that address practical skill gaps, particularly among young women entering the workforce. As employers increasingly value self-sufficiency and problem-solving, programs like Prodhomme's could serve as a model for developing pre-employment training or community engagement strategies. The project's use of accessible digital resources also points to the importance of mobile-friendly, on-demand learning tools in talent development.

By focusing on a traditionally male-dominated skill set, Prodhomme's work underscores the need for inclusive training approaches that build confidence in all employees. HR vendors may find opportunities to partner with or replicate such initiatives to support diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, while also addressing real-world skills that enhance employee readiness and retention.
