Recruitment Operating System (ROS®) has released an updated and expanded Franchise Recruitment Manual, marking the first significant revision since 2021. The new edition, created in collaboration with FranMan, aims to align the industry-leading resource with how top-performing franchise recruitment teams operate today, incorporating modern tools, data, and best practices while preserving core recruitment principles.
“The fundamentals of great franchise recruitment haven't changed, and we don't want them to,” said Art Coley, founder and CEO of ROS®. “What has changed are the tools, data, and technology available to recruiters. Our job is to bring those pieces together without making recruitment more complicated. We want to take an already powerful resource and make it even more relevant to how champion recruiters operate today.”
The manual has long served as a practical framework for franchise sales and development teams, outlining the primary role and responsibilities of recruiters and how to move candidates through ROS®’ proprietary 8-Step recruitment process. However, the recruitment landscape has evolved significantly, with expanded datasets, AI-driven technologies, and more sophisticated candidate intelligence now available. The updated manual combines these advances with the timeless principles that have guided the industry.
Key updates include a new section on recruitment analytics, which explains how recruiters can use data and performance metrics to understand their pipeline, identify areas for improvement, and make better decisions. The manual also incorporates practical best practices for responsibly using artificial intelligence to support recruitment tasks. Additionally, it expands on recruiter behaviors and performance, offering guidance on daily, weekly, and monthly habits of high performers, including how and when to review performance.
The manual also provides additional context for recruiting different types of franchise buyers, including multi-unit, institutional, portfolio, and other sophisticated candidates. Guidance on candidate funding has been strengthened, while staying focused on timeless best practices rather than specific vendors. The sections on FDD and recruitment process best practices have been expanded to help recruiters guide candidates through critical stages more effectively. Finally, the manual explores how it can integrate with other ROS® educational resources, such as ROS Academy™, video, and digital content, to create a more cohesive learning experience.
Lennon Coley, VP of Analytics at ROS®, emphasized the importance of analytics in the update. “Historically, we’ve been very clear in our belief that analytics shouldn’t be limited to what you can access in an executive report - the information is far too valuable. We believe recruiters should have a crystal-clear understanding of their own numbers, including how they operate and where best to apply them. What we’ve accomplished by expanding our guidance in the analytics space is in tying their importance directly to recruiter behaviors and execution - which represents a significant step forward in the process.”
The updated Franchise Recruitment Manual advances recruiting industry best practices, policies, operations, and standards. While remaining faithful to bedrock principles, the new additions account for developments in procedures, tools, resources, techniques, and candidate behaviors.
