VOCIC has introduced the U32 Ultra Lightweight Manual Wheelchair, a foldable, self-propelled wheelchair designed to make everyday mobility easier for seniors, caregivers, and families. With an aluminum frame weighing just 23 lb and a total weight of 35 lb including wheels and leg rests, the U32 aims to reduce the physical strain often associated with traditional manual wheelchairs.
For many families, a wheelchair is not just for medical appointments but becomes part of daily life: moving between rooms, transferring from bed to chair, loading into a car trunk, and navigating narrow hallways. The U32 addresses these needs with a lightweight foldable frame, quick-release rear wheels, adjustable caregiver handles, flip-up armrests, swing-in/out footrests, and a safety-focused braking system.
“Everyday mobility should feel less complicated for both the user and the caregiver,” said Michael, CEO at VOCIC. “The U32 was designed around the real moments families manage every day, from getting through a doorway to transferring beside a bed, loading the chair into a vehicle, or heading out for an appointment.”
Traditional manual wheelchairs can be difficult in daily life due to heavy frames, bulky folding sizes, and features that hinder transfers and caregiver handling. Common challenges include difficulty lifting and transporting, storage issues, armrests and footrests that obstruct transfers, push handles that force caregivers to bend, and limited control options. The U32 was developed to reduce these frustrations with a design balancing portability, comfort, adjustability, and safety.
The wheelchair folds to a compact 12.6” x 26.8” size, making it easier to store in a closet or place in a vehicle. Quick-release rear wheels allow for even tighter storage. This design is especially practical for caregivers who regularly load and unload the chair, or for users who want a wheelchair that is easier to bring along during outings.
Transfers are a critical aspect of wheelchair use, and the U32 includes flip-up armrests and swing-in/out footrests to create a clearer transfer path. Height-adjustable armrests and adjustable footplates allow users to better match the chair to their body. The 17.7” wide by 17” deep seat, with a breathable cushion, supports comfort during use.
Caregiver-friendly handling is a key focus. The rear push handles offer four levels of height adjustment (about 37” to 40.5”/40.6”), allowing caregivers of different heights to push comfortably. A rear stepper tube helps tilt the wheelchair when navigating small curbs. The U32 supports both user and caregiver control with hand brakes on the main wheels and handle brakes on the push handles.
Safety features include user hand brakes, caregiver handle brakes, rear reflectors for visibility, a safety belt, an anti-tip device, and a reinforced Double-X Base frame for stability. The narrow frame, with an overall width below 25.6 inches, helps it move through standard doorways and tight corridors.
The U32 is designed for home use, doctor appointments, family visits, car transfers, and indoor navigation. For seniors, it provides mobility support without unnecessary bulk; for caregivers, it reduces strain during pushing, transfers, and transport. The U32 reflects VOCIC’s mission to make mobility support fit real homes and routines.
