Immersive Learning Environments for Developing Facilitative Leaders and Speeding Cross-Sector Collaboration

Interaction Associates to Co-Host a Forum Featuring the GeoDome

Interaction Associates (IA), the 40-year innovator of methods for developing facilitative leaders, will co-host a unique event exploring advanced practices for transformative learning — featuring the GeoDome, a unique environment that speeds learning through immersive simulations.

The event is co-sponsored by the non-profit consulting firm IA founded in 1993 — the Interaction Institute for Social Change (IISC) — and by Elumenati, designers and creators of immersive displays including the GeoDome. It will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the West End House in Allston, MA.

This invitation-only event will draw cross-sector leaders from a broad swath of the business sector, as well as the NGO, academic, and non-profit communities.

“We’re excited to welcome so many cross-sector leaders to participate in advancing practical methods to lead in a responsible, effective way. We are teaching leaders to apply our 40 years of experience in collaborative leadership to help address global, complex issues,” said Linda Dunkel, President and CEO of Interaction Associates. “Leaders today have an incredible impact on resources, on ecologies, on communities, and political systems — the way we can use simulations to awaken new thinking and fuel problem-solving is very exciting,” she added.

The GeoDome, developed by the firm Elumenati, is a portable immersive environment. Inside the GeoDome, interactive simulations situate the earth within a contemporary model of the observable Universe, using data from NASA, NOAA, and other sources. The GeoDome allows participants from diverse backgrounds to comprehend quickly how the earth is affected by human behavior. As a result, leaders from any sector can grasp the effects of their leadership decisions on interconnected ecological, social, and economic systems.

In addition to experiencing the GeoDome, event guests will participate in a facilitated discussion about leadership innovation, collaboration, and ways to stimulate systems thinking and partnership across sectors.

Later in May, Ashley Welch, Director, Leadership Accelerator Services, Interaction Associates, will interview David McConville, developer of the GeoDome, and the two will share insights into immersive experiences and accelerated learning for leaders. To participate in this free Leader Lens teleseminar, simply call 1-888-373-5705, and use passcode 511443. The call will take place Wednesday, May 26, 1 -1:30 pm EDT and 10 – 10:30 am PDT.

IA and IISC share a 55-year collective history of partnering with the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors to transfer the skills of collaboration to leaders across sectors, facilitate group processes, and support organizational change. For 40 years, Interaction Associates has been the provider of choice for leadership development and learning processes for many of the world’s leading Fortune 500 companies. In 1993, Interaction Associates founded the IISC, which works with leaders and organizations in the nonprofit and public sectors to develop their collaborative capacity to achieve greater social impact. Ten percent of Interaction Associates’ annual profits are directed to the IISC, and IA’s employees each commit ten days a year to community work, including five days pro bono work for the Institute.
