WOBURN, Mass. — August 10, 2010 — HealthcareSource®, the leading provider of talent management solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced that it has acquired Medearc, an Atlanta-based organization specializing in software to simplify and automate the physician recruitment process. The acquisition further extends HealthcareSource’s talent management product portfolio, adding additional expertise to increase efficiency during the complex recruiting process often experienced when healthcare organizations are seeking new physician talent.
The healthcare industry is experiencing growing demand for new physicians and as a result, healthcare organizations are seeking ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of physician recruiting. Industry watchers say health system reform and an apparent end of month-to-month Medicare payment fixes are increasing the willingness of healthcare facilities to add positions for new physicians. According to American Medical News, a total of 3,200 jobs were added to hospital payrolls in the first six months of 2010, a large portion of which were physicians. The monthly report on online job demand issued on June 30, 2010 by the Conference Board also found that the number of ads for healthcare professionals and technical staff, including physicians, grew by 51,900 listings to 592,3000, more than any other category.
“Physician recruiting is a very unique and multi-step process that can be much more complex than recruiting other healthcare workers. Hospitals are competing vigorously for practitioner talent and are looking for any advantage they can get,” said Peter Segall, CEO of HealthcareSource. “HealthcareSource Position Manager® is the leading recruiting solution for non-physician healthcare talent. With the addition of the Medearc solution, HealthcareSource now provides a system for streamlining and managing physician recruiting activities effectively. Together, HealthcareSource and Medearc provide the comprehensive and feature-rich solution healthcare organizations need for all of their recruiting requirements.”
“As the demand for physicians continues to increase, healthcare organizations are seeking to leverage the value they have seen from automating non-physician hiring into the complexities of the physician recruitment process,” said Jason Crepeau, CEO of Medearc. “By merging Medearc’s expertise with HealthcareSource, we are able to maintain the physician recruiting knowledge-base of our seasoned staff while leveraging the infrastructure and reach HealthcareSource has built within the healthcare industry.”
The HealthcareSource acquisition of Medearc is effective today. Specific terms were not disclosed. The Medearc solution will be rebranded as HealthcareSource Physician Recruitment ManagerSM. HealthcareSource will host a webinar for its clients to discuss the solution on August 24, 2010 at 2 p.m. ET.
