DES MOINES, Iowa — Israel Kodiaga, a third-year law student from Kenya, has been named the first recipient of the ARAG Chad Hensley Diversity Scholarship at Drake Law School. The selection was based on his academic achievements, community service and personal commitment to protecting human rights.
“Israel is an impressive individual with a bright future. He is a man deeply committed to public service and protecting the rights of others,” says Allan Vestal, Dean of Drake Law School.
Following graduation from the University of Nairobi, Kodiaga worked with international organizations to promote civic rights, social reform and economic development in east Africa. He plans to return home after completing his law studies at Drake. Kodiaga says, “I want to champion the cause of human rights and continue to work to improve the quality of life for people throughout the region.”
Ann Cosimano, General Counsel at ARAG®, states, “We are proud to recognize Israel as the inaugural winner of the ARAG scholarship. Israel embodies the principles on which the scholarship was established.” The scholarship is named for former insurance company executive, ARAG board member and Drake Law School graduate, Chad Hensley, who saw the importance of providing access to affordable legal services and established a company to offer important legal resources to help people.
