BOSTON, MA — March 1, 2011 — The International Association for Human Resource Information Management (IHRIM), the world’s leading clearinghouse for the HRIM (Human Resource Information Management) industry, today introduced a new educational track designed for government human resource information management (HRIM) professionals during its 2011 Conference and Technology Exposition. IHRIM has added to the conference agenda an open forum and five educational sessions to discuss challenges and provide solutions for government HRIM professionals. The annual event will be held May 15-18, 2011 at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center on the Potomac, just minutes outside of Washington DC.
The sessions will be led by professionals from such organizations as the Treasury Department, National Institutes of Health, the US Department of the Navy, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, the Department of Veteran Affairs and Deloitte Consulting.
“The early response we are getting for this new track has been tremendous,” said Lynne Mealy, CEO of IHRIM. “These targeted sessions will provide exceptional value to federal employees — not only because it will offer a great way to network, but also because the sessions highlight some of the innovative solutions in the government sector. We are pleased we can bring this great educational opportunity to Washington, DC.”
The new government track sessions in the 2011 Conference and Technology Exposition line-up include:
The Lifecycle of an HRIS Career
Led by Kevin P. Murphy (HRIP) of the National Institutes of Health and Timothy Newman (HRIP) of the U.S. Dept of Navy, this session will address such questions as: how do you get into HRIS? What types of positions exist in HRIS? What can I do to and what do I need to know to enhance my HRIS career?
More than Metrics: Using Data to Spark Meaningful Dialogue
Led by Keith Krut of National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, this session will dive into how driving change often requires us to draw leadership teams into our analysis via effective dialogue, rather than pushing our analysis in one-directional briefings and white papers. It will introduce the “active ingredients” NGA has successfully deployed to engage leadership teams in human capital discussions and critical thinking, including actual examples for:
• Facilitating end-user metrics discussions
• Assessing perception and reality via integrated survey data and metrics
• Identifying “positive deviance” examples to export best practices
• Visualizing data for resonant self-discovery moments
Consolidation of HR and Payroll Systems in the Federal Government
Led by Liz Mautner of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management a representative from the U.S. Office of Management & Budget, this session will show attendees how to use strategic and tactical components of the HR & Payroll Systems consolidation going on over the last seven years as well as the resulting benefits of such actions.
Creating Value from HR Data Assets — a Federal HR Data Model
Led by Lynn Eddy and Boota Virdi of Deloitte Consulting, this session will give attendees such takeaways as tools they need to apply HR data to deliver mission results; the model and its key components; representative core reporting and measures; alignment of the model with HR shared service delivery; and flexing the model for unique data and mission requirements.
What’s In It for Line Managers and Chief Human Capital Officers
This panel discussion will have professionals from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the U.S. Treasury Department, the White House Office of Management & Budget and the Chief Human Capital Officers Council. This session will explore how, after spending significant resources in HR technology, to show ROI to line managers and chief human capital officers.
