Fourteen hospitals study volunteer views on patient safety and hospital quality
Morehead Associates is hosting a national research project to study volunteer engagement at 14 U.S. hospitals, launching in conjunction with National Volunteer Week.
Morehead provides physician and employee engagement surveys, research, and consulting to clients in 44 states, including 45% of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals and four Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipients. The hospitals participating in Morehead’s volunteer research include six academic medical centers, four children’s hospitals, and a cancer institute.
“Morehead developed the Volunteer Engagement Survey in conjunction with hospital leaders to look both at the volunteers’ views on their volunteer roles and their views on the organization as a whole,” says Morehead Senior Vice President of Science and Research, Barbara Reilly, PhD. “Hospital volunteers donate countless hours of service to provide high-touch care that adds value to the overall patient experience. Although volunteers are removed from many of the formal aspects of the organization, their insider perspectives of day-to-day operations are especially useful for data-driven hospital leaders.”
Dr. Reilly also notes, “Organizations like Joint Commission and the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners pay close attention to how health systems manage their volunteer base, as these individuals play a large role in the overall patient experience.”
Results from the healthcare volunteer engagement research study will be provided to participating facilities and published by Morehead for healthcare industry use later this fall.
