COLUMBIA, MD—November 13, 2012, Many federal contractors and subcontractors are asking when the updated census information will be ready to use for their availability calculations. Most professionals are using data from the 2000 Census—the most recent decennial census for which data is available. The new EEO File will not be extracted from the 2010 Census data; instead it will contain information collected by the American Community Survey (ACS) over a five-year period from 2006 to 2010.
Berkshire Associates’ latest white paper, `The Latest U.S. Census Data Updates and Insight—What You Need to Know to Stay Compliant,’ examines the most recent census updates. It includes the latest Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs’ enforcement information, and provides insight into the factors that differentiate the 2010 Census information (or census codes) from the current EEO File containing Census 2000 data.
According to one of the authors, compliance expert, Cindy Karrow, SPHR, “Federal contractors and subcontractors need to be prepared for the changes that coincide with the new census data. These changes will not only impact their affirmative action planning efforts, but also their HRIS systems.”
