DALLAS, April 23, 2013–Assess Systems, a SaaS and consulting company specializing in talent assessment and leadership development solutions, has co-sponsored a new study by Aberdeen Group, “Assessments 2013: Finding the Perfect Match,” which details how more than 250 employers use assessment data as an integral component of their strategies for attracting talent that helps achieve outstanding business results.
Conducted throughout February and March 2013, the survey shows that 85 percent of Best-in-Class organizations have a clearly defined process in place to assess candidates and applicants. These employers also use a wide variety of assessment types including behavioral-based, critical thinking, multi-rater or 360-degree assessments, simulations and assessment centers. In fact, these Best-in-Class organizations were universally more likely to use all of these assessment types than other employers.
Best-in-Class companies were distinguished by ranking in the top 20 percent based on three key performance criteria, achieving average performance levels of:
– 71 percent of employees received rating of “exceeds expectations” on last performance review
– 70 percent of key positions have at least one willing and able successor identified
– 12 percent year-over-year improvement in hiring manager satisfaction
While Best-in-Class organizations rely heavily upon assessments in the hiring process, they also are 36 percent more likely to use assessment data as part of their criteria for promoting individuals to leadership roles.
Other shared characteristics among Best-in-Class organizations include:
– HR and line-of-business management collaborate to ensure that assessment content addresses business needs
– Support and buy-in for assessments from senior executives and organizational leadership
– Hiring managers are trained to use the output of assessments
“Aberdeen’s report is full of data demonstrating the value of strategically using assessment practices across organizations,” said Diane Ianni, vice president of marketing and sales for Assess Systems. “Clearly, assessments are a necessity to achieve Best-in-Class results in hiring, development, employee performance and succession planning.”
“The correlation between the use of assessments at all stages of the employee lifecycle and improved organizational performance has continued to grow over the past several years,” said Mollie Lombardi, vice president, HCM research at the Aberdeen Group. “Assessments are providing critical data to help employers and employees make smart talent decisions.”
