WorldatWork Publishes Practitioner's Guide to Executive Rewards Communications

Jan. 7, 2010 — Washington, D.C. — As public and media scrutiny of CEO pay continues unabated, organizations may be focusing on external communications to manage public perception when they should be equally focused, if not more so, on internal communications. WorldatWork, a global human resources association, has released a new tool to ensure successful internal communications dealing with executive pay. “The Practitioner’s Guide to Executive Rewards Communications” is an interactive tool designed to assist executive rewards practitioners, or anyone who has to discuss pay with executives, in preparing for and conducting such complex discussions. The tool helps users organize their talking points based on various pay elements, including: base pay, annual incentives, long-term inc! entives,
nonqualified plans, perquisites and proxy data.

The tool also guides users on the different aspects of rewards that must be considered when preparing to communicate with executives regarding their pay:
• What to Communicate
• Historical Aspects
• Technical Aspects
• Soft and/or Motivational Aspects
• Timing Considerations
• Other Considerations

“When there is a lack of understanding, perplexing behaviors occur, such as when executives exercise stock options in a way that indicates they don’t understand the reward,” said Don Lindner, CCP, senior practice leader at WorldatWork. “The new executive compensation commu¬nications tool helps to ensure that leaders understand how the various elements of their pay programs work together, thereby preventing unintended consequences leading to dissatisfaction, underutilization or loss of key talent.”

“The Practitioner’s Guide to Executive Rewards Communications” was created by an all-volunteer board of advisors for WorldatWork:
