DALLAS, September 12, 2012—Hiring for the restaurant industry, for both customer-facing and back-of-house positions, is a critical branding issue. Assess Systems’ Scott McTague, M.S., will give a presentation on the use of assessment science in hiring decisions at the Meeting of the Minds Restaurant Recruiting Conference taking place in Dallas on September 18 and 19.
McTague, director of Market Solutions for Assess Systems, will present “The Science Behind the Art of a Great Hire” at 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on the second day of the conference. The session will focus on the science underlying a critical cornerstone of an effective hourly hiring process—personality assessments. Participants will learn key fundamentals of solid assessment science and how to apply the science to make the hiring manager’s job easier in accurately determining the likelihood of a successful person—job fit.
A particular personality is required to succeed in the people-focused and on-demand restaurant industry. Hiring managers need a combination of artistry and science to make good personnel decisions. Based on Assess Systems’ research, the “color pallets” containing the right mix of personality factors for front- and back-of-house hourly roles have some common hues but look significantly different. As a part of this session, McTague will outline these critical differentiators and involve the audience in sharing their own experiences in hiring great works of art.
McTague has 20 years of consulting experience including the design, implementation and measurement of strategic human resources, organizational development, and talent management systems for companies of all sizes across diverse industries. Prior to consulting, he gained valuable experience and life lessons by holding various positions in the restaurant and hospitality industry, including KFC Corporation, Chi-Chi’s Mexican Restaurant, and the Holiday Inn Holidome Hotels. McTague earned his M.S. in I/O Psychology from the University of North Texas in 1992.
“Just as great artists have the vision and skill to create masterpieces, making great hiring decisions is an art form for hiring managers,” McTague said. “That level of dedication and skill should be paired with a scientific tool that undergirds the hiring process, and that is what accurate assessments can do.”
Meeting of the Minds Conference began in October 2001 as a “Restaurant Management Career Fair,” which then evolved into a full-service independent recruitment solutions company called Self Opportunity. Based in Lewisville, Texas, the company offers a suite of recruiting products and services, including direct placement, resume sourcing and recruitment advertising.
