BUILDING HEALTHY COMMUNITIES & WORKPLACES ONE STEP AT A TIME

Steps2Give Launch — April 1, 2010 — Join Us For A Virtual Tour of the Far East

January 11, 2010, Aurora, Ontario – Steps2Give is a corporate wellness program produced by HR.com that challenges participants to walk 10,000 steps a day over the course of each 100-day program. The program was developed to help employers and communities address the huge toll that obesity has taken as the single-biggest cause of preventable, lifestyle-related chronic diseases — currently estimated to cost U.S. private employers $45 billion per year in medical expenses and work loss.

According to the American Heart Association, every $1 a corporation puts into health and wellness initiatives saves $4-$16 per employee in reduced healthcare costs and increased productivity. Forward-thinking organizations are taking a preventative approach to wellness by providing employees with the tools and incentives needed to adopt healthier lifestyles.

Camaraderie and overall fun is what sets Steps2Give apart from other wellness initiatives. Participants in the Steps2Give program walk in teams of 5 and can challenge others to log the most steps or lose the most weight. Corporations with an annual fundraising initiative can also use the program to increase pledges and track contributions.

Participants log in to the secure Steps2Give site daily to record their steps and get health tips. Actual steps entered are converted into a virtual walking tour of the world. Walkers can see the global impact their daily steps have as they travel to the next new city, town, or country in their online journey. The site has a strong social networking integration to enable participants to share their success stories, send postcards, and challenge others. Also included are a health-risk assessment program, daily health, exercise and nutrition tips, and just-in-time coaching and advice. Steps2Give is a multi-faceted, comprehensive program that provides companies with the tools they need to create employee engagement and ultimately build healthier, more productive workplaces.

In 2010, there will be two 100-day challenges:

April 1 — July 8, 2010 — Virtual Tour of the Far East

September 1 — December 9, 2010 — Virtual Tour of the Old World

100% of pledges raised by participants as well as a percentage of their registration fees will be donated to the following charities: in Canada Steps2Give supports the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, and the Canadian Diabetes Association; in the U.S. Steps2Give supports the American Diabetes Association and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® foundations.
