Norwalk, CT / February 17, 2010 — “Resetting the HR Agenda—Leadership Challenges for a New World” was the title of a recent luncheon program of the Southern Connecticut Chapter of Society for Human Resource Management (SOCT SHRM).

The program’s featured speaker was Dr. Patrick Hyland, vice president of Sirota Survey Intelligence and adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Teachers College. In his address, Hyland discussed events of the past decade and how those events have reshaped the American workforce and employee mindset.

“Amidst the recession, employee attitudes towards communication, openness, teamwork, fairness and acceptance have actually improved. However, most attitudes have shifted into decline,” said Hyland. “To prepare for the next decade, organizational leaders should consider evaluating and resetting their HR agenda. The most successful agenda includes both short and long-term plans. In the short-term, organizations should focus on assessing and restoring morale. Longer term, the focus needs to move towards bolstering the employee value proposition.”

The luncheon program was part of a monthly series held by the Southern CT Chapter of SHRM. Recognized in 1970 as a chapter of the national SHRM, the organization is dedicated to driving excellence and innovation within the Human Resource professional community. Through its programs, organization members have access to a wide variety of professional development opportunities and a common forum in which to share ideas and experiences across the HR community. More than 80 members of the organization attended the luncheon, which was sponsored by PerfectSoftware, a leading provider of HR and Payroll software.

“We’re extremely pleased to participate in the programs held by the Southern CT Chapter of SHRM,” said Richard Allaway, COO, PerfectSoftware, also attending the program. “The programs provide a vital resource of enrichment for HR professionals and teach effective HR strategies.”
