SAN FRANCISCO – June 23, 2015 – Where are millennials happiest at work? Culture expert Great Place to Work(R) and Fortune decided to ask Gen Y employees themselves, and the result is the 2015 list of the 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials in the U.S.
Millennials’ top picks include some names you’d expect – Google and Twitter rank in the top third, for example – but the financial services and insurance, professional services and construction industries also have a strong showing, with family-owned Power Home Remodeling Group taking the top slot. The list is based on the anonymous responses of nearly 90,000 millennials to the Trust Index(C), Great Place to Work(R)’s employee assessment survey.
The 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials list is part of a series of rankings by Great Place to Work(R) and Fortune based entirely on employee surveys from published Great Place to Work(R) Reviews. Past lists have included Technology, Retail, Financial Services, Advertising and Manufacturing.
Analysis of millennials’ survey data by Great Place to Work(R) shows the best organizations for Gen Y employees stand out when it comes to profit sharing and pay, shared decision-making and fair promotions.
“Business leaders know that a great culture–for employees of all ages–is a crucial competitive advantage in the emerging Great Workplace Era,” says Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work(R). “Leading organizations are constantly monitoring and analyzing their employees’ workplace experiences and then taking action to improve them. Ranking on this list is a great indicator that these companies’ efforts to create great workplaces are resonating with millennials.”
Millennials are reaching their early thirties, coming into their own as business leaders and market influencers. In 10 short years they will dominate the workforce, making up 75 percent of the U.S. employee population. Which workplaces will capture this critical generation’s talents and position themselves best for sustained success?
To answer this question, we surveyed 87,297 working millennials, asking them everything from how big a difference they feel they make at work to the level of support they receive for their professional development. One hundred companies rose to the top. What are some of the things that these companies do better than the rest for millennial staffers?
Of the 58 statements on the Trust Index(C) survey, the following three showed the greatest difference between winners and other participants.
Top millennial workplace Power Home Remodeling Group has a practice that blends a number of these key factors for Gen Y employees. “I will not work anywhere else as long as this company is run the way it has been since I arrived,” one Power Home Gen Y employee told us. “This place is simply amazing.” Overall, 89 percent of the millennials at these winning workplaces have no plans to leave their companies for a long time.
