HealthcareSource NetLearning Clients Score Better than Peers across All HCAHPS Measures

HealthcareSource(R), the leading provider of talent management solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced the results of a research study showing that healthcare organizations using the HealthcareSource NetLearning(R) learning management system score better than peers across all patient experience measures of the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS.)

A research study conducted by Dr. Fred Morgeson, Professor of Management and Valade Research Scholar at The Eli Broad Graduate School of Management of Michigan State University and Scientific Advisor to HealthcareSource, analyzed the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) dataset of HCAHPS scores and compared organizations that used HealthcareSource software versus organizations that didn’t. The statistical analysis looked at the mean scores for each HCAHPS measure for HealthcareSource vs non-HealthcareSource organizations and found that HealthcareSource organizations consistently scored higher in patient experience measures.

Of more than 3,700 hospitals surveyed, organizations using NetLearning scored an average of 3.26 percentage points higher than peers in the “communication with nurses” category and 5.45 percentage points higher that peers in the “discharge information” category – the two categories that correlate the highest with overall scores.
NetLearning is a web-based learning management system designed to improve learning management and content delivery. The solution provides reports and dashboards specifically designed to produce the data required for healthcare accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission; compliance reporting for regulations such as OSHA and HIPAA; tracking and recording competencies; and developing skills and maintaining licensure through continuing education.

Within NetLearning, HealthcareSource NetCompetency(R) allows organizations to manage competency statements, documentation, and assess competency. Clients who use the NetCompetency competency library, the latest in a series of enhanced features now available, report an improved ability to manage competencies internally which results in streamlined processes for demonstrating competencies to the regulatory bodies.

“NetCompetency has significantly improved our competency management process,” said Ann Green, staff development coordinator at Schneck Medical Center. “We now have a centralized repository for clinical and non-clinical competencies that is aligned with our policy to provide a consistent competency assessment and documentation process for managing current and defining new competencies across departments. This facilitates continual readiness for accreditation surveys and improves our ability to demonstrate competencies internally.”

In addition to the use of NetLearning, the research study concluded that hospitals that use HealthcareSource Position Manager(R), Staff AssessmentSM, Leadership AssessmentSM and Performance Manager(R) also received higher HCAHPS scores compared to their peers.
