We recognize that our employees’ mental well-being is as critical as their physical health. Given her background in psychology and mental health counseling, one of our co-founders greatly supported this philosophy. We’ve seen firsthand how demanding the IT consulting world can be, especially with the constant need to stay updated, meet client deadlines, and juggle multiple projects. One of the ways we address this is through Google Cloud. We have created a specialized internal-facing chatbot through many discussions within the team.
This incredible chatbot, integrated within our everyday communication tools, provides readily available, confidential support that anyone on the team can connect with 24/7, at any time. It cannot replace professional counseling; instead, it’s an initial contact of support for anyone on our team: a readily available resource. Team members can access guided mindfulness exercises, tips for managing stress and anxiety, or find information on our company’s mental health benefits.
We designed the chatbot to be discreet and easy to use, encouraging everyone to prioritize their mental well-being without fearing stigma. When I experienced a nasty bout of insomnia, I connected with this virtual solution and used some of the tips shared by this solution to help me that night and for a few more nights, and the recommendations provided by the chatbot are becoming very useful to me on a regular and daily basis.
Adopting this internal-facing chatbot has boosted team morale and encouraged more open conversations about well-being. It’s a proactive step that shows we genuinely care, and it’s a cornerstone of our commitment to creating a supportive and healthy workplace. The key is that it’s readily accessible—right there in the tools that employees are using.
Making a solution available is not sufficient. An employee will hesitate to adopt a tool, primarily if the solution addresses a sensitive area, like mental health. The solution’s availability needs to be clearly and regularly communicated internally at all levels of the organization. In our case, executives embraced this communication requirement and committed to the success of this solution. They communicate the availability of the solution through regular emails, bring it up and discuss it in meetings, share their interaction with the solution, create internal prompt training for it, and encourage feedback for continuous improvement.
