The free research report, Management of the Digital Workforce, is now available for download. HR.com’s Research Institute conducted the study of HR professionals to examine the state of applications of digital tools in organizations, including communication and arrangements for remote work, screenings, background checks and more to maintain employee engagement and productivity.
The majority (77%) of HR professionals reveal managers get the technology and tools they need to manage remote workforces.
The report defined digital workforce leaders as organizations where respondents agree/strongly agree that managers are getting everything they need to manage the remote workforce. It discovered that these leader organizations are considerably more likely than their laggard counterparts to:
- give employees access to all the tools they need to work from anywhere
- maintain a more consistent culture between employees who work remotely and those that don’t
- say their managers are more certain about whether direct reports meet work expectations
- use video technology for hiring and interviewing
- hire more non-local candidates and people who will only work remotely in the future
- incorporate background checks more often
- rely less on manual onboarding processes
- use a wider range of communication methods, including more face-to-face video calls
In addition, the study found that most organizations suffer a scarcity of smart tools that can help make employees more efficient so they can focus on more value-added work.
“Great digital workforce management has fast become a major competitive advantage at a lot of organizations. This not only means giving managers and employees the right tools, it means giving them the right skills and work processes as well. Communication is key, and so is nurturing a consistent corporate culture that applies both to remote and non-remote workers,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “Productivity and engagement depend on it!”
