Indianapolis, IN, Nov. 21, 2012 – Studies show personal wellness has a surprising tie to wealth and retirement savings. Employers are making use of this information by educating their employees about how good physical health is an investment in their financial future. United Benefit Advisors (UBA), one of the nation’s largest employee benefit advisory organizations, in conjunction with the Principal Financial Group, is hosting a free HR webinar, Personal and Financial Wellness for employers and HR professionals on Dec. 6 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. EDT. To receive the $149 discount for this webinar, enter the code UBAPFW when registering. Employers participating in UBA’s Personal and Financial Wellness Webinar will explore how an effective wellness program can help employees save more for retirement, as well as enter their retirement years in good health. (This webinar has been approved by the HR Certification Institute for 1.25 hours of HRCI credit.)
The HR Webinar will explain the tie between physical and fiscal well-being, including:
– Illness can reduce retirement readiness by increasing the amount of savings that will be needed to cover health-related costs
– Dollars that could have gone into savings have been used to pay for healthcare expenses that could have been avoided
– Illness endangers an employee’s ability to retire as planned and their quality of life during retirement years
Employers will also learn about the top three trends impacting effective retirement planning: employees aren’t saving enough; retirees are living longer; and health care costs are rising, leaving people with less discretionary income. These trends are compounded by the fact that 63 percent of participants who retired earlier than planned did so because they had a health problem or disability.
“Given that today’s retiree needs more than $250,000 to cover health care costs alone during retirement, it’s important for employers and employees to grasp the link between retirement savings and good health,” said Thomas Mangan, CEO of UBA.
The 2012 UBA Health Plan Survey results show that employers are capitalizing on the benefits of wellness programs: Nearly 60% of employers with 1,000 or more employees offer wellness programs and smaller employers with 50-99 employees showed the largest increase and fastest growth in adopting these programs. “Adopting an employer-sponsored wellness plan is a good start,” said Mangan. “The Personal and Financial Wellness Webinar will help employers incorporate a crucial wealth component into their wellness offering for a more complete solution.”
Sandi Eskew, Vice President of National Sales of Principal Wellness Company and Kim McVicker, Sr. Relationship Manager of Alliance Managament Group will teach this UBA-sponsored HR webinar. Eskew has 22 years of wellness/health promotion experience. She provides strategic leadership to the wellness sales team as well as wellness liaison to internal Principal Financial Group sales and service teams.
